The History of Satolli Carpet and Floor Covering
1960, Philip Satolli of Warren, Ohio, opened Satolli Carpet.
In 1993, Philip Satolli passed away. Nick Schuller and Dwayne Noble purchase the business and bring in partner Eric Thompson. Satolli Carpet opens two additional stores in Newton Falls, Ohio, and Sharon, Pennsylvania.
1994 - 2004, Business continued to expand, and the satisfied customer base of Satolli Carpet & Floor Covering continued to grow.
2004, Nick moved on to pursue bigger and better opportunities.
2005, Satolli Carpet & Floor Covering relocates to a larger building next to their old address. This move more than doubles the size of the showroom and warehouse. Many products and displays are added, and the inventory increases, allowing prices to be reduced due to significant volume buying discounts.
2006, Dwayne Noble passed away.
2020, Satolli Carpet & Floor Covering celebrates its 60th anniversary.
2023, Eric Thompson celebrates his 30th year of owning Satolli Carpet and Floor Covering in Warren, Ohio.

Meet Eric Thompson
Eric has owned Satolli Carpet & Floor Covering since 1993. He is married to the former Susan Robertson, and they live in Newton Falls. They have three children: Sara (Josh), Eric Thompson Jr. (Chrissy), and Katlyn. They are the proud grandparents of granddaughters Madilyn, Emily, and Briella and grandsons Jaxon, Elliot, Grayson, and Levi.
Eric graduated from Howland High School and attended Youngstown State University and Kent State University. He was twice elected as a City Council Representative. Eric has served our community through his membership on boards of directors with several civic, philanthropic, business, and professional organizations. He has served on the boards of Someplace Safe, a shelter for victims of domestic violence; The Camelot Center, a therapeutic horseback riding facility for children and adults with disabilities; Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber Business Pride Award Committee; Warren's Courthouse Square Christmas Tree Lighting Committee; The Downtown Warren Business Association; The Newton Falls Area Chamber of Commerce; Little League Baseball/Softball Association, among others.
Thompson has been acknowledged multiple times for his remarkable community service and volunteer work. He has been the recipient of several awards, including the "Community Star" award from the American Red Cross and recognition from the United States Congress. Through Satolli Carpet & Floor Covering, Thompson has won nearly two dozen Tribune Chronicle's "Best of the Best" awards. This award is given every year for exceptional customer service and product satisfaction and is voted on by the public. Prior to his success in business, Eric Thompson served numerous years as a firefighter and emergency medical technician with the Newton Falls Volunteer Fire Department.
In 2023, Eric was inducted into the Howland Local School's Hall of Fame. He graduated from the school in 1980 and was recognized for his remarkable success as an entertainer and philanthropist. The Howland Achievement Hall of Fame is dedicated to honoring the outstanding achievements of members of the Howland Schools Community.

The history of carpeting
6000 BC – Evidence of goats and sheep being sheared for wool and hair and then spun and woven.
1480 BC – Evidence of Egyptian fresco of handloom (discovered in 1953).
464 BC – A Pazyryk rug was first woven (found in an ice-filled tomb in outer Mongolia in 1960). The rug has all the characteristics of a modern Persian rug with pile and Ghiordes knots.
1000 AD – Marco Polo confirms rug making in Central Anatolia.
1550 – Carpet knotting techniques were first exhibited.
The 1580s – Verularn carpet was made for Queen Elizabeth I. Aubusson carpet center was set up in Beauvoir.
1596 – Pierre DuPont first weaves carpets in Palace Royal Pans.
1655 - Carpet factory built in Wilton, England.
1749 – Dufossy family developed a method to cut loops of Brussels weave to make a nap in Wilton, England.
1770 - 1795 – Royal Society of Arts presented premiums for the finest carpet. Handmade carpetmaking flourished and attracted designers across England, France, and the rest of Europe.
1791 – The first United States carpet factory opened in Philadelphia.
1801 – Jacquard invents a method of presenting different colored yams to weaving faces. This revolutionized patterned making, a system that is still in use today.
1810 – Handmade carpets declined due to the Napoleonic War and competition from machine-made carpet manufacturers. More looms are introduced in England and Scotland.
1825 – The second US carpet mill opens in Massachusetts.
1832 – Mr. A Whytock invented a method to print yarn and then weave it into a flat fabric with the design incorporated. This was the beginning of the Tapestry Carpet Loom.
1839 – Erasmus Bigelow of the United States invented a power loom to make double ingrain and large, seamless patterned carpets at a more economical price. Later, it was powered by steam and sold to Scottish and English manufacturers.
1905 – Britons begin to produce carpets from the first power-driven wide loom, manufacturing carpets in widths of fifteen feet for the first time.
1940 - 1950 – Tufted carpets were developed in the United States from candle-wick weaving techniques.
